In an absence,
you are substance.
I renounce the normal fears,
the liabilities of closeness,
and I’ll take what I can get.
Is it perilous to dive in
so recklessly?
Maybe.
But “people are better than no people”
and there you stand.
This poem isn’t even much good.
But words are better than no words
and I’ll take what I can get.
